December 31, Saturday – Antarctica

Today is a repeat of yesterday...another beautiful, sunny, calm day for cruising around the islands and icebergs of Antarctica!!!

Again we saw seals...

lots and lots of Icebergs, some bigger than the ship...









and penguins.

We named one formation Moby Dick...because it looked just like a great white whale.


We stopped near Palmer Station to take on some of the station staff. They arrived in two small motorized Zodiac rafts.  They had to climb on rope ladders up into the ship. Fortunately it was pretty smooth.

They had a wide variety of staff giving presentations and answering questions about life in the Antarctic.  There were scientists and cooks and electricians and the base manager.  At one point they were looking for one of the maintenance staff to answer a question but he was off at the ship's spa getting a haircut.  Guess that explains a bit about life in the Antarctic.
